Creating a Cereal Box Cover

The final project will be for students to make a cereal box cover.  Students will use this assignment to show off their photoshopping skills.

Final projects are expected to be of high quality.
Students should expect to need more than 3 classes to complete their final project.  Students should make use of extra help time, especially if class time is missed.

Students may choose to make a box cover for either hot or cold cereal.

Required Dimensions

Picture
The finished design must be specific dimensions.
  • Hot Cereal Box Cover:
    - Width = 19 cm     (can be 19.015 cm)
    - Height = 27 cm      (can be 26.998 cm)
  • Cold Cereal Box Cover:
    - Width = 30 cm     (can be 29.986 cm)
    - Height = 40 cm      (can be 40.005 cm)

Resolution for both cereals must be 72 px/in (pixels per inch).

Required Elements

Cereal box covers (images to be altered, filtered or edited):
  1. Name of the cereal (original) must use Text Along Path
  2. Type of cereal (hot, cold, healthy choice, ...)
  3. Slogan / marketing statement for the cereal
    (make up your own slogan)
  4. Name of cereal producer
(e.g. Kellogg's, but make up your own name)
  5. Amount of cereal (in grams or kilograms)
  6. Cereal bowl (layer with student-made shadow effect)
  7. Cereal in the bowl (composite of multiple layers containing individual pieces of cereal that have been cut out from different source images)
  8. Images of 2 people (from different source images, but lighting and shading must be similar or related)
  9. Complexity (student work is expected to be of the highest quality and complexity)
  10. Realism (student work is expected to achieve all of the above while still maintaining the look-and-feel of an actual cereal box that might be found in a store)

QUESTIONS TO ANSWER

Your "Cereal Box" page will include a write up about your final project and must include:
  1. How did you achieved your colour scheme?  (Why did you choose these colours?)
  2. What filters did you use (and explain the before and after)
  3. What are some techniques you used (and explain the before and after)?
  4. What cloning did you do (with the cloning tool)?
  5. Of what are you most proud?
  6. What do you wish hadn't happened or is something you would do differently if you were to do it again?

Saving Your Work

To present your final project, create a new page in your Weebly site.  You will need to:
  • Create a new page called "Cereal Box"
  • Indent "Cereal Box" under "Raster Graphics"

Your "Cereal Box" page must also include:
  • links to all images that you used (and altered)
  • "Picture" of your final exported image (JPG or PNG)
  • "File" for the final exported image
    - PNG file
       (see naming below)
  • "File" for the uploaded image file
    - XCF (GIMP) or PSD (Photoshop) (see naming below)

The Fine Print about Marking:
In rare circumstances, student work reflects the need for exceptional recognition.
