THE STORY:
You'd been thinking for quite some time about how to make money using computers, phones and the Internet. Turns out that business people don't talk like this. Instead, business people talk about "Marketing" and "Advertising" because they want to bring more awareness to their business or cause.
And so, one day, you are in a lineup at the bank when the people behind you start discussing how they can't get teenagers to pay attention to their business. They have lots of money in the bank and a successful business, but they know that with more teenagers interested, they could do so much better!
So, as politely as you can, you join their conversation. You start slowly but let them know that you have a group of friends who "know the secrets" to getting teenagers interested.
They are happy to pay you, but want to know more. So they setup a business meeting where you and your friends can meet with them. They ask you to explain your "marketing" strategy to get teens interested, but they are operating on a tight one-week timeline.
You say, "No problem!"
Before you have left the bank, you have some friends texting you back saying they are interested.
Now, all you have to do is get it done!

TASKS:
WANT FULL MARKS?
WANT BONUS POINTS?
- The group has a logo that is ugly and old fashioned. They need a new logo.
- The main information that the group wants to get out uses "old people" words and images. Create some new slogans and images that match.
- The group needs desperately needs to attract teens with a phone app that includes the new logos, slogans and images. (The phone app needs to be interactive [not just a business card] and can include a simple game.)
- The group has no web presence. Create them a beautiful web site that includes the new logos, slogans, images and screen shots of the phone app. (Can use Weebly, Wix, Tumblr, ...)
- The old people in the group are having trouble understanding. They need a work proposal that explains what is to be done and who is to do it. (No big explanations, just a list of items with names that make sense. Can be a table in Word or a spreadsheet in Excel).
- The old people are really having trouble explaining this to their employees, colleagues and other adults. Create a one-page brochure. (The information will likely just be copy-and-pasted from the web site. Full points if the brochure is letter-size and double-sided.)
- Also, alongside this, the old people need to know who will be the project manager, and they would like to see a Gantt chart that forecasts the activities/tasks and estimated timelines. (See Mr. Rich's sample Gantt Chart.)
- The group has no idea how to find teens. Create a social media strategy that explains how you would put yourself out there, how teens would find you and how you would stay connected with them. (Be sure to use old-people language and add these 2-3 paragraphs into the Work Proposal. You can include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube / Flickr / Vimeo / Daily Motion, ...)
- The old people are still worried about this whole thing. They would like to see a mock-up or prototype of the phone app no more than 2 days after the initial presentation. Nothing in the app has to work, but the basics need to be there. Please include a "Barebones App" that shows what some screens could look like. Also, create some kind of presentation to explain to the old people what your app will do. (Can be a PowerPoint, a video [like Mr. Rich's videos], or something similar.)
- Continue to keep track of all the activities/tasks and resources in a Gantt chart.
WANT FULL MARKS?
- Do everything above, but then actually create the social media activity that you discuss in your strategy above.
Create logins and save the web addresses, usernames and passwords in the Statement of Work.
WANT BONUS POINTS?
- Do everything above, and then pretend to be clients posting comments on your social media activity.
(For example, if it's a YouTube video, add a comment. If your group has created a Facebook page, then post about your YouTube video, and have other group members create different logins to comment on Facebook about your YouTube video. ...)
