Principles of Design
- Balance (Arrangement of elements - for comfort or clash)
- Contrast (Difference between elements - usually a dark object on a light background or light on dark background)
- Emphasis (Creating a focal area, element or object)
- Movement (How we get around in a work of art, what and where the art directs your eye, where we expect movement in the piece)
- Pattern (Repetition of surface decoration)
- Rhythm (Repetition of shapes, lines and forms)
- Unity (Unity of the entire art piece - all elements - may come through harmony or variety)
