Read & React Offense  -- ESSENTIAL!!!

Picture
The Read & React Offense videos have been moved to a "password protected" area (as I do not own the rights to these videos).

These videos are on the Basketball Videos page.
(You'll need a password.  What animal is the HCS mascot?  -- all lowercase)

Baseline In-bounds Play  -- ESSENTIAL!!!

Picture
When we are on offense, we have a very specific in-bounds play that the girls have learned.  Please know what is expected of each position!

  • Graham explains the "Pat Summitt Baseline In-bounds" play  [5:10]
  • The original video post: Pat Summitt Baseline In-bounds Play  [0:32]

If you'd like to learn who Pat Summitt is, then watch this as she receives the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage (video courtesy of ESPN).

PGC Basketball

Picture
Formerly known as "Point Guard College", PGC Basketball runs development camps for players in all positions (hence the name change).

For those of us who live far away, the videos on this site are a fantastic resource of both skill and thinking strategies for success!

Highly recommended!

Keys to the Gym

Keys to the Gym is another site full of inspiration basketball stories and great skill strategies (also from the PGC people).
A great resource!

    Arc to arc

    (for the high % shot)
  • Control (fast without hurry)
  • Eagerly Hunt the Paint (HuPPPPy)

The Fine Print -- My motivation for the above basketball strategies

Picture
I've watched many games from the sideline and wondered why my kid never seemed to be "in" the game.  Sure, she was on the court, but the game didn't seem to involve her - she was just there watching.  When she first started in grade 4, I thought it was just because the grade 6 kids didn't want to pass to the younger ones. However, as she got older, the trend continued.  Was it because she didn't have "basketball sense" or was it something else?

I've since discovered that there are better basketball systems/strategies out there and that everyone can feel like they are contributing and playing in a game, no matter what their level of "basketball sense"!  Hopefully, these strategies can be helpful to you too!
