Digital Business

This unit is based on the resources available at BBTNB.ca.  (OVERVIEW Page (Digital Security))

Business

It seems like it's all about the money.

If that was true, then we would celebrate the latest inventions to make the most money.

And here's the newest and biggest one:

In-App Purchases  -- also called -- In-Game Purchases

Check out these stories and opinions:
  • How In-App Purchases Have Destroyed the Industry
  • This Kid Blew $2,500 on In-Game Purchases in Just 10 Minutes

It's probably safe to say that the people who invented In-App Purchases didn't see these disasters happening.
(Let's hope!)

  1. Your Opinion: In 2-3 sentences, explain your opinion about In-App or In-Game Purchases.
If you have any personal experience with In-App or In-Game Purchases, please explain.

Online Shopping

Online sales are BOOMING and showing only signs of growing. The days of going to a physical store are being challenged by simply clicking on a screen and having the product arrive at your door days later. Let's take a minute to compare the two.

Answer the following and submit to your teacher.

1. What are the 2 biggest reasons people still shop at stores?

2. What are the 2 biggest reasons people shop online?

3. Which do you prefer - online or in-store shopping?

4. In the year 2030, will we shop just online, just in stores, or both?  Explain your answer.

Technology Companies

Technology is big business!
See if you can find which technology companies make the most.
Is it a software maker (like Microsoft or Adobe)?
Is it a web service (like Google or Yahoo)?
Is it a social media provider (like Facebook or Twitter)?
Is it an app company (like King [Candy Crush] or
Is it a video game company (like Ubisoft or EA Sports)?
Is it a game company (like Sony or Nintendo)?
Is it a computer company (like HP or Dell)?
Is it a camera company (like Canon or Kodak)?
Is it an "everything" company (like Apple or Samsung)?

Make a list (based on money - profits and/or revenues) of the top 20 technology companies
(and please include their most famous products)
 - Revenue: money earned by selling something
 - Expenses: money spent to make something
 - Profit: money left over after expenses are subtracted from revenues.
