Activity 1 - Title Block (using "Absolute Coordinates")

Getting familiar with AutoCAD.

Open "prototype1.dwg".




Turn OFF the Dynamic Input button
  • If the button is blue, then click it to turn grey.

Draw a Line (to start a rectangle)
If you can't see this line as you draw it, then don't worry - just keep going.  You'll see the line after you use "Zoom to Extents" below.
  1. Click the "L" key to start drawing lines.
  2. Type "0,0" and press Enter (to start at the origin)
  3. Type "80,0" and press Enter, then Enter again to finish

(When this works correctly, the bottom line after each command should say "Command: ")

Zoom to Extents
Here's how to zoom back so you can see your entire drawing!
  • Click the "Z" key and press Enter (zoom mode)
  • Click the "E" key and press Enter (extents)

(When this works correctly, the bottom line after each command should say "Command: ")
Draw 3 Lines (to finish drawing the rectangle)
  1. Click the "L" key to start drawing lines.
  2. Type "80,0" and press Enter (to start where we left off)
  3. Type "80,60" and press Enter (draw right line)
  4. Type "0,60" and press Enter (draw top line)
  5. Type "0,0" and press Enter, then Enter again to finish

(When this works correctly, the bottom line after each command should say "Command: ")
Draw Text Box Outlines
  1. Click the "L" key to start drawing lines
  2. Type "0,6" and press Enter (start)
  3. Type "80,6" and press Enter, then Enter again to finish
  4. Click the "L" key (or click the "Line" button)
  5. Type "30,0" and press Enter (start)
  6. Type "30,6" and press Enter, then Enter again to finish
  7. Click the "L" key (or click the "Line" button)
  8. Type "50,0" and press Enter (start)
  9. Type "50,6" and press Enter, then Enter again to finish
Enter Text
Try the "ESC" key if the program doesn't respond.
  1. Click the "Multiline Text" button (Ribbon - Home - Annotation)
  2. Click the top-left corner of the text box for the name area
  3. Click the bottom-right corner of the text box
  4. Type in your first name and last initial (example: "Graham R")
  5. Highlight the typing (use Ctrl-A or drag mouse over text)
  6. Change the font size to 1.5 (instead of 2.5000), press Enter
  7. Leave the font as "Standard"
  8. Click the large "Justification" button
  9. Choose "Middle Center" for the justification
  10. Click "Close Text Area" (or in the whitespace on the side)
    The text you just entered may flash.
  11. If the name is too close to the top, then
    - click on the text (so corner points appear)
    - click on a corner point (to activate)
    - click where you want the corner point to be (to move it)
    (You may need to do this to both top and bottom corners)

  12. Repeat steps 1-11 for today's date.
    (Lower middle box)

  13. Repeat steps 1-11 for the activity # with activity name
    (Lower right box)


Inside your BBT9 folder:
  • Make sure you have a folder called "AutoCAD".  

  • Save this drawing as "Activity-1.dwg".
