About Teaching (Sept 2012)I miss teaching! (My 2010 teaching site is here.)
I know it's crazy, but I really miss teaching. I miss selling the value of I.T. skills to teenagers. I miss the hard work that goes into preparing a curriculum ... and the joy of watching students succeed (especially when they thought they couldn't!) Yes, the private sector has been good to me. But now, it's time for me to get back to my true calling as a public school teacher. So, if you have a teaching opening, or know somebody who does, drop me a line and let's talk! In the meantime, feel free to check out my 2010 site, where I was posting curriculum and teaching ideas. Yea! Found Work! (Jan. 2012)
Yes! I've been hired!
It's been awesome starting with Bluedrop. They have a great team and are all about e-learning! Now this is the way to start a year! Happy New Year, everyone! Broadening Focus (Dec. 2011 - Jan. 2012)It's been almost 20 years since I used Microsoft developer tools, but C# hasn't been that bad of an adjustment. Remembering to declare all my variables has been a challenge!
On the other hand, jQuery is showing up in everything nowadays, so diving into that has been quite fun. And the JavaScript add-on world is way bigger than I had previously imagined! (Read more in My Blog.) Learning Rails (Oct. - Nov. 2011)
I've been following along with Michael Hartl's excellent RailsTutorial.org. So far, it's been worth the $95 for the screen-capture videos and the PDF. However, there are a number of hiccups (maybe "errors' or "fails") that I've come across. You can follow along with My Blog (or even use the Rails tag).
Blogs & BooksBeware! If you talk about doing something, then people actually expect you to do it!
Yes, I may have mentioned that I was going to write a book for teachers called "Software Programming for Beginners". I'm sure there are other books out there about how to use Scratch, but I enjoyed making my own curriculum, and thought others might too! Well, at least I can hope... So, now I need to create a second blog for the book. I hope my top links don't get too confusing! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Follow-up: The new blog is now called "Book Blog" and an explanation for this is on the "Blog-to-Book" page. Enjoy! Notes from today's Cybersocial (Wed. Sept. 21)So, true to form, the @FredCybersocial was a great time. (The pint of Keith's Red on tap was excellent as usual...
Looking for work in Fredericton? (My Links)I've just posted my links to I.T. employment in Fredericton. I've included a number of general links, and a tip or two where necessary.
Reinventing myselfAfter reading "Unemployed Recruiter Seeking Recruitment" I thought about why someone would hire me. Since this is the web, big paragraphs are taboo. So, what to do?
Check this out and let me know if it worked. Everything old is new again...
After an 8-year hiatus, I'm back in the information technology sector! Yea!
Now, don't get me wrong. Teaching was a blast! But, with my recent move to New Brunswick, there's been lots of learning to do and great people to meet. Looking for the old site? The old site has been archived just for you!
Don't panic if it looks different. (I love using Weebly templates because they allow me to focus on content!) Check it out here... |
