When making your own movie trailer (for a movie that already exists, or one that you're making up) be sure to include:

- Who are the main characters?
- What do the main characters do? What happens to them?
- What is the purpose of the story? Is there a goal? Is it drama and relationships? Are there "bad guys"?
- What is the movie's genre? (... comedy, action, drama, romantic, thriller, horror, documentary, ...?)
- Trailer Script Overview (basic ideas that will be included)
- Does the trailer style match the movie genre?
- For this trailer style, what conventions do you want to keep?
- What conventions do you want to break, and for what effect?
- What is important to include in the trailer?
- Who are the main characters? How will you introduce them in the shortest time possible?
- What events or characters should be left out, so that the audience can be surprised when they go to see the movie?
- Does the trailer style match the movie genre?
- Trailer Storyboard (frame-by-frame sketches for the trailer)
- Show each frame, and be sure to include:
- Characters, costumes
- Script of speaking and voice-overs
- Backdrop (real or green-screen+CGI?)
- Camera angle and lighting
