GIMP Activity 4b

Picture
In this activity, we will 'photoshop' someone **into** a picture.

In Activity 4b, we will add a child into a photo with adults.  This is another photo of Amber and the adults we will refer to as "parents" (although that is not known). 
  • Launch the GIMP
  • Open "AddAmberHere.jpg"
  • Open "AmberToAdd.jpg"

Video #1
  • Lasso the child out of one photo

  • Paste the child into another photo
    - Will paste as "Floating Selection"
    - So, remember to "Create New Layer"




Remember these Keyboard Shortcuts:
  • Ctrl-Z  = "Undo"
  • Ctrl-Y  = "Redo what you just Undid"

  • "+"     = Zoom In
  • "-"      = Zoom Out

    (Just general erasing, not detailed yet)

  • Use the Blur tool on the edges of the cutout

  • Scale the child down
    (Make proportional in size)

  • Option #1 - Leave the Canada Flag 
    (most students should choose this)



Other Options (for advanced students):
  • Option #2 - Swap flag for giant lollipop
  • Option #3 - Move so it looks like child is holding adults arm



Super Advanced Option:
  • Replace upraised arm with other arm
    - May want to try this:
       Layer -> Transform -> Flip Horizontally

  • Child's photo was taken in sunshine, so try to dull that layer's colors using choices from the Color menu.
    (May also try Burn tool.)

  • Save as activity-4b.xcf
    -     Be sure to upload this as a "File" on your Weebly site

  • Export as PNG - activity-4b.png
         
    - Be sure to upload this as a "Picture" on your Weebly site
       and click the first button to "Open larger image ..."
