Final Project - Digital Production 120 (June 2015)

The final project for Digital Production 120 may be done alone or with a partner, but it must incorporate at least 3 and up to 4 areas of expertise.

These areas of expertise include:
  • Raster Graphics (e.g. The GIMP)
  • Vector Graphics (e.g. Inkscape)
  • Audio Editing (e.g. Audacity)
  • Video Editing (e.g. Windows Movie Maker, CamStudio)
  • Phone App Development (Vizwik)
  • Blueprint Design (AutoCAD)

The final project is being assigned on May 19 and is due on
June 5, 2015.

Therefore, the project is expected to show 15 hours worth of planning, design, execution and accomplishment.  Keep all planning, sketches, storyboards, rough drafts and be sure to blog your progress.

Examples

Here are some examples of final projects:
  1. Video Interview
Interview (real or spoof) filmed in front of a green screen.
New audio track composed in Audacity and then inserted into video.  Images made in GIMP and Inkscpae used as background to replace green screen.

  2. Instructional Video
Student uses CamStudio to voice-over a short series of videos that teach students how to use
    - Inkscape to create buttons
    - the GIMP to create images
    - Vizwik to create a phone app using the buttons and images

  3. Phone App
Student creates an Game app using Vizwik that uses buttons made in Inkscape and backgrounds made in The GIMP.
Student also creates 3 short videos on YouTube and integrates them into the Game app.
Examples of videos: "How to Play", "Game Over", "You Win".
Emphasis for this assignment could be on game quality or video quality (but probably not both, given the limited time).

Note about Partners

Projects made by a partnership between 2 students are expected to demonstrate double the work of a project made by a single student. This measure may be made by quality, quantity or both.

In other words, each student is expected to produce the same amount of work, whether they work with a partner or not.

And finally, partners will be asked what percentage of the work each accomplished.  Marks given to both partners will only be equal where all persons (each partner and the teacher) agree that the work was divided equally (50% / 50%).

Marking (100 points)

If students use only 3 areas of expertise, then the maximum mark they can receive is 80%, except in the rare event that the quality of the work is outstanding.

If students use 4 or more areas of expertise, then the maximum mark they can receive is 100%, although this would be a rare mark to receive except where the quality of the work is outstanding.
