Grade 8 Technology and Design @ DMS

In Technology and Design class, students learn about:
  • Technology - using tech for good
  • Designing - using pencil/paper and computers
  • Building - using different mediums to produce an artifact
    (may involve computer programming [coding], robotics, screen printing, woodworking and/or CNC).
Through activities and projects, students build resilience and grit.
Required Activities:
  1. Motivational / Inspirational Poster
  2. Basic Inkscape design (tracing)
  3. Advanced Inkscape design (poster or business card)
  4. Typing (typing.com)
  5. Basic Woodworking (in the woodshop)

  • Music Editing with Audacity (Create a 20 minute mix)
  • 3D Printing Design (tinkercad.com)
  • Advanced Woodworking (in the woodshop)

Assessments: How is my work assessed?
  • Time - Did you use the full time productively?
  • Effort - Did you give your full effort?
  • Strategy - Did you use the requested strategy?
  • Quality - Is this work at your highest level?
Technology and Design is part of the "Practical and Related Arts (PRA)" rotation, so students travel with their homeroom to take this class for one term (maximum 30 class periods per year). 
Therefore, attendance is essential!  Our time is precious!

​Students are encouraged to provide feedback to Mr. Rich, whether using the Contact form, talking to Mr. Rich during class, or using MS Teams chat.
