Mr. Rich created this page for his DMS students so they would know the options and be able to provide feedback.

Activities for grades 7 and 8
Students in grades 7-8 have these options during classes while Mr. Rich is out.
- Option #1 - Minecraft: Students in grades 7-8 to use code to build a house in Minecraft (and be creative with the house features). Please follow this YouTube video to get started (but he makes a lot of mistakes!)
- Option #2 - Coding: Students in grades 7-8 can go to Hour of Code and try one of their coding tutorials (https://code.org/hourofcode) Students may try any activity, even ones for younger grades.
NEW: Minecraft has an Hour of Code activity.
Open Minecraft -> Play ->Library -> Subject Kits -> Computer Science -> Hour of Code - Option #3 - Inkscape: Students in grades 7-8 can copy silhouette images from Google (or Bing) and paste them into Inkscape, and then trace them.
- Option #4 - Typing.com: Students in grades 7-8 may continue learning to type using Typing.com.
- Option #5 - Scratch Coding: Students in grades 7-8 may work on coding using SCRATCH.
- Option #6 - EVERFI: Students in grade 6 may login and continue learning using EVERFI.
- NEW: Option #7 - TinkerCAD 3D: Students in grades 7-8 may work on 3D designs using TinkerCAD.com.

Students in grades 6 have these options during classes while Mr. Rich is out.
Reminders for Grade 6 students doing photoshopping with The GIMP
- Option #1 - Photoshop: Students in grade 6 may continue photoshopping with The GIMP.
- Create a Magazine Cover (see whiteboard) or any previous activities (e.g. celebrity detouching)
- Option #2 - Typing: Students in grade 6 may login and continue learning to type using Typing.com.
- Option #3 - Scratch Coding: Students in grade 6 may login and continue coding using SCRATCH.
- Option #4 - EVERFI: Students in grade 6 may login and continue learning using EVERFI.
- Option #5 - Coding: Students in grade 6 can try a coding tutorial on Hour of Code (code.org/hourofcode)

Reminders for Grade 6 students doing photoshopping with The GIMP

- Challenge #3 – Photoshop water,fire,concrete,star/sun (not all classes did this)
- Challenge #4 – Celebrity / Animal Hybrid
- Challenge #5 – Celebrity Detouching
- Challenge #6 - FAKE MAGAZINE COVER
- Include a photo of a celebrity. (It may be a new photo or any of the celebrity photos you have already worked on.)
- Include fake story titles (make them up!)
- Bonus: Include a photo of you
- REMINDERS: As we did last class, students should go on the Internet and copy a photo. (Choose any celebrity.) Right-click and choose “Copy Image”
- Open GIMP and choose:
- FILE --> CREATE --> From Clipboard
This will insert the photo into GIMP as a new file - Use the CLONE tool (stamp) to copy (CTRL-click) and paste (click-and-drag)
- If you PASTE an image, but it's a FLOATING layer, then click the GREEN button to make it a proper layer so you can SCALE it (using the small box with an arrow to the big box) to make it bigger or smaller, or use the ERASER.
- If the ERASER isn't working, then in the LAYERS window, right-click on the image and choose "Add Alpha Channel".
- FILE --> CREATE --> From Clipboard
