What is Coding?

Coding is the another word for "software programming".

Coding is where people tell computers what to do.

When coding, we write instructions in a language the computer will understand.  Unfortunately, computers don't understand English, so we have to use a programming language.

For coding, there are lots of programming languages. We have chosen VizWik because it is drag-and-drop and works right away!
When you are ready to learn another language, check out suggestions at Code.org.
(We recommend the next step be Python, Javascript or Ruby.  Later, you'll be ready for C++, Java, C# and others.)



In this activity, we'll be using VizWik.

As of October 2014, VizWik is:
  • only available online
  • only works with Google Chrome
